- Grok spicy mode is a setting in Grok Imagine, xAI's image and video generator. At launch it was reported to allow partial nudity, and it does not turn moderation off.
- As written, xAI's Acceptable Use Policy bans altering a real person's likeness into an intimate or sexual context and depicting likenesses in a pornographic manner, with no exception for your own face. That leaves fictional adults only.
- After sexualised edits of real women and children spread on X in January 2026, xAI restricted real-person edits and regulators in the UK, the EU and California opened investigations or demanded action.
- OnlyFans requires AI content to clearly feature the verified creator, which xAI's policy rules out for sexual content. Fanvue and MYM accept labelled AI personas; Fansly bans photorealistic AI content.

Grok spicy mode is a setting in Grok Imagine, xAI's image and video generator, that loosens what it will render. At launch it was reported to allow partial nudity. It does not switch moderation off, and xAI's own Acceptable Use Policy bans putting a real person's likeness in a sexual context, so only fictional adults are left. As written, that policy has no exception for your own face, which is the rule that matters most if you sell content on a subscription platform.

All xAI pages quoted here were read on 5 October 2026. xAI's [Terms of Service](https://x.ai/legal/terms-of-service) now name the company SpaceXAI LLC; we call it xAI, the name most readers know. If you came looking for Grok NSFW prompts, there are none here, on purpose.

## What Grok Imagine and spicy mode are

**Grok Imagine** is the part of Grok that makes pictures and short videos. It launched on 4 August 2025. [TechCrunch reported](https://techcrunch.com/2025/08/04/grok-imagine-xais-new-ai-image-and-video-generator-lets-you-make-nsfw-content/) that it rolled out to SuperGrok and Premium+ subscribers on the iOS app, could turn text or image prompts into a 15-second video with native audio, and had a "spicy mode" that allowed sexually explicit content, "including partial female nudity". [The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/news/718795/xai-grok-imagine-video-generator-spicy-mode) listed four video modes: Custom, Normal, Fun and Spicy.

Spicy mode was never unlimited. TechCrunch found that many of its more explicit test prompts came back as blurred images marked "moderated".

Neither xAI's [Consumer FAQ](https://x.ai/legal/faq) nor its Terms of Service mentions spicy mode by name.

## Who can access spicy mode

There is no single public page from xAI that says who gets spicy mode. What can be pieced together from xAI's own documents and major news coverage:

| Gate | What the sources say |
| :--- | :--- |
| **Plan** | Paid at launch (SuperGrok and Premium+). In January 2026, image generation and editing through Grok on X were limited to paying subscribers ([CNBC](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/01/14/musk-xai-blocks-grok-chatbot-from-creating-sexualized-images-of-people.html)). xAI does not publish which current plan includes spicy mode. |
| **Age** | The Terms set a minimum age of 13, with parental permission from 13 to 17. In Australia, xAI uses age assurance and users may not reach 18+ adult content until it confirms they are 18 or over. |
| **Settings** | The Australian section of the Terms says users can limit exposure to 18+ adult media in Settings, Data Control. |
| **Region** | Since January 2026, xAI says it geoblocks images of real people in revealing attire, made through Grok on X, where that is illegal ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce8gz8g2qnlo)). The Terms say content "may be subject to restrictions" that a jurisdiction requires. |

The age and settings rows come from xAI's [Terms of Service](https://x.ai/legal/terms-of-service), last updated 11 September 2026.

In the UK, the question of age checks is still open. In [February 2026 Ofcom said](https://www.ofcom.org.uk/online-safety/illegal-and-harmful-content/investigation-into-x-and-scope-of-the-online-safety-act) it was examining whether to investigate xAI's compliance with the rule that services publishing pornographic material must use highly effective age checks.

If the setting is missing for you, that is the answer. Changing your birth date or hiding your location to reach it breaks the Acceptable Use Policy, which bans "circumventing any rate limits or restrictions or protective measures and safety mitigations".

## What xAI's policies allow and forbid

xAI's Terms say that, depending on your features, settings and prompts, Grok "may respond with some dialogue that may involve coarse language, crude humor, sexual situations, or violence". That sentence is about dialogue. For images and video, the limits that matter are in the policy below.

The limits sit in the [Acceptable Use Policy](https://x.ai/legal/acceptable-use-policy), effective 14 August 2026. Under privacy and the right to publicity, it prohibits:

> Undressing or nudifying real persons, or otherwise altering a real person's image or likeness to depict them in an intimate or sexual context

> Depicting likenesses of persons in a pornographic manner

> Sexualizing or exploiting children

Under detrimentally impacting the service, it prohibits:

> Jailbreaking, adversarial prompting, or prompt injection

> Stripping, altering or circumventing embedded provenance metadata or watermarks

The policy adds that xAI reports suspected child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Breaking the policy "could result in action against your account, up to suspension or termination".

## Where spicy mode stops

Spicy mode is a narrow setting, not a different set of rules. Four limits apply whatever you toggle.

### Real people and likeness

No real person can be shown in an intimate or sexual context. That covers celebrities, people you know and strangers from a photo. On 14 January 2026, xAI said it had blocked the editing of images of real people in revealing clothing, and that "this restriction applies to all users, including paid subscribers" ([Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/musk-says-unaware-grok-generating-explicit-images-minors-2026-01-14/)). It also said it would geoblock images of real people "in bikinis, underwear, and similar attire" made through Grok on X, where that is illegal ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce8gz8g2qnlo)).

### Consent

The policy text quoted above does not say "without consent". It prohibits altering "a real person's image or likeness" into a sexual context and "depicting likenesses of persons in a pornographic manner", full stop. Read as written, your own face is covered too. Written consent from the person in the photo does not appear as an exception anywhere in it.

### Minors

xAI's policy prohibits sexualizing children, and no setting changes that. Subscription platforms draw the line further out: the [OnlyFans Help Centre](https://onlyfans.com/help/196/205/206) bans content that features a creator "pretending to be under 18, even though this is role-play or fiction".

### Moderation

Even with spicy mode on, a prompt can come back blurred, softened or blocked. The rules behind those decisions are not published on any of the xAI pages we read, and results labelled "video moderated" are part of the same system. Trying to rephrase your way past a block can count as adversarial prompting under the policy, which puts the account at risk.

## The controversy and regulatory action

Grok's image tools became a public issue in early 2026, after Grok on X was used to make sexualised edits of real women and children. California's Attorney General named spicy mode directly. The main events, as reported by regulators and major outlets:

| Date | What happened |
| :--- | :--- |
| 5 January 2026 | The European Commission called the images of undressed women and children on X unlawful ([Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/britain-demands-elon-musks-grok-answers-concerns-about-sexualised-photos-2026-01-05/)). |
| 12 January 2026 | Ofcom opened a formal Online Safety Act investigation into X ([Ofcom](https://www.ofcom.org.uk/online-safety/illegal-and-harmful-content/ofcom-launches-investigation-into-x-over-grok-sexualised-imagery)). |
| 14 January 2026 | xAI restricted editing of real people in revealing clothing for all users and announced geoblocking (Reuters, BBC). |
| 16 January 2026 | California's Attorney General sent xAI a cease and desist letter. The announcement names "spicy mode" directly ([California DOJ](https://oag.ca.gov/news/press-releases/attorney-general-bonta-sends-cease-and-desist-letter-xai-demands-it-halt-illegal)). |
| 26 January 2026 | The European Commission opened a Digital Services Act investigation into X over Grok ([BBC](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clye99wg0y8o)). |
| February 2026 | The UK Information Commissioner's Office opened investigations into X and xAI ([ICO](https://ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/media-centre/news-and-blogs/2026/02/ico-announces-investigation-into-grok)). |
| 15 July 2026 | xAI sued a Grok user, alleging he misused Grok "to create child sexual abuse material" ([Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/musks-xai-sues-grok-user-over-sexualized-deepfakes-2026-07-15/)). |

The Ofcom and Commission investigations concern X, the social platform, rather than the standalone Grok app. For creators the takeaway is simpler: the tool sits under active scrutiny, and its rules have tightened more than once in 2026.

## Why spicy mode is not a production tool for subscription creators

A creator account needs the same recognisable person in every post, content the platform accepts, and rights you can rely on. Spicy mode struggles on all three.

### Your own face is the one thing you cannot use

OnlyFans now allows AI content only if, in the words of its [Terms of Use](https://onlyfans.com/terms), "it clearly features the verified Creator" and carries a label such as #ai or #AIGenerated. Its [Help Centre article on AI content](https://onlyfans.com/help/196/205/211) says the same. Its [content moderation guide](https://onlyfans.com/help/196/205/206) lists "accounts or content that are wholly AI-generated" as content you cannot share, along with content that "features heavily altered images".

Put that next to xAI's policy. OnlyFans wants the verified creator, a real person, in the content. As written, xAI's policy forbids showing a real person's likeness in a sexual context. Together, the two rules leave no room for sexual content of you made in Grok.

### Fictional personas only fit some platforms

Fictional adults, the only subjects xAI's policy leaves open, have a narrow home. [Fanvue](https://help.fanvue.com/en/articles/9538738-is-ai-content-allowed-on-fanvue) allows fully AI-generated content if the disclosure is "clear and prominent", in the bio, the caption or a watermark. [MYM](https://support.mym.fans/hc/en-us/articles/14997634314524-AI-Generated-Content-on-MYM-What-You-Need-to-Know) allows AI content labelled "Virtual Image", #AI or #AIgenerated. [Fansly](https://help.fansly.com/en/articles/12315578-ai-generated-content-on-fansly) says "photorealistic AI-generated content is not allowed", labelled or not, and [OnlyFans](https://onlyfans.com/help/196/205/206) does not allow wholly AI-generated accounts. Our guide to [video face swap rules on OnlyFans, Fanvue and Fansly](/blog/video-face-swap-onlyfans-fanvue-fansly-rules) quotes each platform.

### One face across a whole feed

A subscription feed needs the same face and body across hundreds of pictures and clips, month after month. On OnlyFans that face has to be the verified creator's, which xAI's policy rules out for sexual content. That is a workflow problem, covered in [how to keep one face across AI video clips](/blog/keep-one-face-across-ai-video-clips), and a general assistant is not organised around it.

### The commercial terms come with strings

The good news first. xAI's Consumer FAQ says "You own the Inputs and Outputs" and that you may use them "including for commercial use". The rest of the terms are worth reading before you build a business on it:

| Clause | Where | What it means for a creator |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| Attribution | FAQ and Terms | xAI asks you to attribute generated work to Grok under its Brand Guidelines. |
| AI disclosures | Terms | xAI may apply a disclosure that content was AI-generated, and you agree to it. |
| Watermarks | Acceptable Use Policy | Removing or altering provenance metadata or watermarks is prohibited. |
| Uniqueness | Terms | "Outputs may not be unique, and different users may receive similar Output." |
| Your uploads | Terms | Inputs grant xAI an "irrevocable, perpetual, transferable, sublicensable, royalty-free, and worldwide" right, extended to any likeness in them. |

That last clause matters if you upload photos of yourself. Every reference image you feed in comes under that licence.

### Unpredictable output and account risk

A production schedule needs output you can plan around. Moderation rules that are not published, and a policy that treats pushing past a block as a violation, make spicy mode risky for a paid account you depend on.

## A consent-based alternative for adult creators

For adult work, the safer setup is a tool built for adult creators with a consent rule at its core. FansCreator works on one principle: the face has to be your own, your own AI persona's, or that of a person whose consent you hold and can prove. Anything else is prohibited by our [Terms of Use](/terms).

Inside that rule, the same creator's face and body stay consistent across pictures and video. The [NSFW AI video generator](/nsfw-ai-video-generator) animates your approved photos into clips, and [FansCreator's Wan page](/wan-nsfw) explains the open-weight video model behind it. If you are building a persona from scratch for Fanvue or MYM, [how to create an AI influencer](/how-to-create-an-ai-influencer) walks through the setup. The platform rules above decide where each piece can go.

FansCreator does not post for you. You download the files, add the AI label each platform asks for, and publish yourself.

## Grok spicy mode for creators, in one paragraph

Grok spicy mode is a narrow, moderated setting that was paid at launch and was reported to allow partial nudity. Under xAI's policy, only fictional adults can be shown that way. As written, the policy forbids showing a real person in a sexual context, and the wording includes you. The tool has drawn regulators in the UK, the EU and California. For a hobbyist that may be fine. For a creator whose income depends on one verified face, it is the wrong tool.

If you want to try a consent-based tool instead, you can start on the free plan. Whatever tool you pick, only use faces you have the right to use.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Grok spicy mode free?

It was paid at launch in August 2025, for SuperGrok and Premium+ subscribers. In January 2026, image generation and editing through Grok on X were limited to paying subscribers. xAI does not publish which current plan includes spicy mode, so check the plan details inside the app.

### Does Grok spicy mode allow full nudity?

Launch coverage described partial nudity, with more explicit prompts returning blurred results marked moderated. xAI's public pages do not list what spicy mode will and will not render, and its rules on real people tightened in January 2026.

### Can I use Grok spicy mode with my own photos for OnlyFans?

Not for sexual content. As written, xAI's Acceptable Use Policy prohibits altering a real person's image or likeness to depict them in an intimate or sexual context, with no exception for your own face. OnlyFans, meanwhile, only allows AI content that clearly features the verified creator.

### Can I sell content I made with Grok Imagine?

xAI's Consumer FAQ says you own your outputs and may use them commercially. It also asks you to attribute the work to Grok, lets xAI add AI disclosures, forbids removing watermarks or provenance metadata, and warns that outputs may not be unique. The platform you sell on must also accept the content.

### Are there Grok NSFW prompts that get around moderation?

This guide does not provide any. xAI's Acceptable Use Policy prohibits jailbreaking and adversarial prompting, and it says violating its policies can lead to action against your account, up to suspension or termination.
